REMOTE NOTICE FOR BHS ONLY

BLANCO HIGH SCHOOL WILL BE REMOTE ONLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK. HOWEVER, BLANCO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND BLANCO MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL CONTINUE IN PERSON SCHOOL UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTIFIED.

BLANCO HIGH SCHOOL NEWS AND ALERTS FROM  PRINCIPAL, PATRICK HINSON –

Good afternoon parents and guardians! I hope this email finds you and your family as healthy as possible. As I am sure you know, we have had to work around some positive cases and quarantines here at Blanco High School. Mr. Rosenbaum and I have been monitoring the situation daily with our numbers and how we think the cases might be trending. One of the things which I have always taken to heart is if I ever had any inkling of a doubt that maybe some of our students were acquiring the virus here at school, we would make sure to do everything possible to stop any spread. There has been a case or two while I cannot connect them to anyone in particular at school, I also cannot 100% determine they were exposed out of school either. This leads me to have a sliver of doubt on whether or not the virus is being spread here.

With that in mind, we have decided to go straight remote for our students for the next 3 days. While this decision was not taken lightly and it was done with the health and well being of our students, faculty, staff, and their families in mind. Our teachers will be working the same hours over the next three days and they have been asked to post video lessons and assignments no later than 10:00 a.m. so our students can have the best chance of staying on top of their academic work. This is where we will need your help for a few days. I feel like we were making some progress on kids and their learning and now we are going to need to be remote for a few days. If you could help us make sure your students are getting online and completing the work which our teachers will be putting online it will go a long way in helping us to make sure the academic gap doesn't grow while we are remote. I will make sure our teachers are putting out quality lessons on videos each day and placing relevant and purposeful assignments online on our end.

Please encourage your students to use this time to truly quarantine themselves from their friend groups. If they continue to get together while outside of school during their remote time, it is defeating the purpose of us even being remote. We are trying to break the cycle that we are in where we have students testing positive and other students being exposed to those students. We will need your help with that.

A couple of notes for remote learning:

1. Meals will still be available by our cafeteria staff on a grab and go basis at the back driveway of the school from 10:00 a.m. till 10:30 each day

2. Our Iron Man volleyball game will be rescheduled to Wednesday of next week

3. All extra-curricular activities, games, and practices will take place at their normal times. We will not have any teams practicing earlier in the day.

4. This does not affect the Middle School or Elementary School. They will be meeting as scheduled as they are not seeing the same numbers of positives and quarantines as we are here at the high school.

5. Learning will be all asynchronous meaning teachers will post videos and assignments. There will be no synchronous learning.

6. Attendance will be determined by whether or not your students complete their work for each individual class by the 11:59 p.m. the day it was assigned.

7. School will resume in person on Monday, February 1st
