My entry plan as new superintendent at BISD has involved listening, observing, learning and seeking feedback from district stakeholders.  As a means to that end, I met with a Student Advisory Council at Blanco High School to get student perspective and feedback.  I asked several questions of the group and gathered valuable input to help guide conversations.  One of the questions I asked was:  What would you do if you ruled the district?  It was great to hear them brag about the positive attitudes of staff and students and that school spirit is alive and well.  I will continue to seek feedback from a Staff Advisory Council in the near future and reach out to other stakeholders as well.

In a time in which concerns for school and student safety are paramount, we are being proactive and participating in a School Safety Program.  StayALERT is a safe and secure place to confidentially report unsafe behaviors, suspicious activities, bullying, acts of violence or any other school safety concern.  Reports can be made 24/7/365 via several reporting modes.  Information can be found on our website and at our campuses.

I am proud of the work that the Blanco Coalition on Awareness, Prevention, and Treatment of Substance Abuse (CoAPT) is doing for our students and community.  The CoAPT’s mission is to raise awareness of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs to youth and families through the development and utilization of resources dedicated to saving lives through prevention, intervention, and treatment.  The coalition meets monthly in an effort to discuss ways to actively try to keep our students and community safe and drug free.

Homecoming Week is scheduled for the week of October 9 to 13 in Blanco ISD culminating in a district matchup with the Lexington Eagles.   Homecoming is a time for mums, pep rallies, parades, campus activities and football. It is also a time to welcome back our alumni. Blanco alumni and community members are invited to join us in celebrating Homecoming by attending the Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the square, followed by a pep rally at Panther Stadium. The game between the Panthers and Eagles will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 13.
